Aerial Bundle Cable: KESC launches pilot project to end Kunda culture

The Karachi Electric Supply Company has kicked off its Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC) Pilot Project at a cost of Rs 348 million, under which low tension bare wires from PMT to consumer meter will be replaced by ABC, which would eradicate issues like Kunda connections snapping of wire, overloading electrocution and voltages fluctuation.
The pilot project would be carried out in the distribution system of Gulshan-e-Sikandarabad at Keamari, where KESC will replace cables from 103 PMTs to connected consumers. They will also substitute 36,000 old electromechanical meters with new electrostatic meters. This replacement will eliminate the chances of Kunda connections on these PMTs, and around 5,700 legal connections would be made available to the Kunda users.
Work on the pilot project will start on February 7 and will culminate within two weeks. After the completion of ABC pilot project in this area, KESC will launch ABC projects throughout the metropolis under a phased programme, within 90 days. Once the ABC system is established in all the coverage zones of KESC, the Kunda culture in the city will be abolished and various threats to life and damage to electrical appliances.-PR
