PTI demands trial under terrorism act

Published Updated

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its student wing Insaf Students Federation (ISF) took out a protest rally, here on Thursday, warning both federal and Punjab governments to provide justice to the families of the innocent Pakistanis killed by US citizens otherwise they would take the matter in their own hands.
PTI leaders Umer Sarfaraz Cheema, Mehmood Gilani, Talat Naqvi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Sadia Sohail, Mian Hamid Mairaj, Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokher, Dr Seemi Bokhari and Yasmin Khan led the rally that was joined by hundreds of PTI and ISF activists. Brothers of the persons killed by Davis were also present on the occasion.
The rally started from Qurtaba Chowk where the incident took place and concluded a few yards away from the American consulate building at Shimla Hill. Carrying banners, flags and placards, the participants chanted slogans against American involvement in the country and demanded 'death punishment' for Raymond Davis.
They demanded that Davis, who killed two Pakistanis, should be charged under terrorism offences. They also demanded US consulate to hand-over other Americans involved in the killing of another Pakistani Ibad-ur-Rehman. Participants also voiced demand of removal of Pakistan Ambassador to US, Hussain Haqqani for serving the agenda of US rather than pleading Pakistan's case. They demanded that he (Haqqani) be removed from his position and brought before the courts in Pakistan and questioned as to how he had issued visas to Americans without getting a clearance from a local agency.
Addressing the gathering, Rasheed, brother in law of Faizan Haider demanded to charge Davis under terrorism acts. He expressed his dissatisfaction over police investigation and requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take action. He accused the government of deliberately weakening the case. Wasim, brother of Fahim, on the occasion revealed they are receiving several offers regarding acquittal of the US official from the case. They also claimed that have been offered money and multiple US visas. Sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Dr Fozia Siddiqui also addressed the gathering via telephone from Karachi.
