KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that he was thankful to Azerbaijan government for providing $2 million to help the victims of devastating flood affected areas of Sindh.

He said this while addressing a reception hosted by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to celebrate 25 years of Pakistan-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations here at local hotel, according to a statement issued here on Thursday. He said Pakistan and Azerbaijan share unique commonalities of historical, religious and political nature.

He added after Turkey Pakistan was the second country which recognized independence of Azerbaijan in 1991 and Pakistan was first to open its embassy in Baku.

The chief minister said both countries have supported each other on every international forum. Azerbaijan supports Pakistan's position on Kashmir and Pakistan supports Azerbaijan's position on Nagorno-Karabakh issue, he said.

He thanked Azerbaijan for its help in 2010 and 2011 floods in Sindh.

Azerbaijan government had provided $2 million for the victims of devastating flood affected areas of province.

He added ‘our relations are characterized by consistency, stability, mutual respect and trust.

Murad said Pakistan is the land where we have Moen-jo-Daro, Taxila and Harappa civilizations.

Azerbaijan on the other hand has a rich past that is going back thousands of years, so much so that UNESCO has designated a number of cultural Heritage Sites in the Republic.

He quoted Some of them which were The Maiden Tower, the legendary monument of Mystery, the Aatesh Gah, Ismailiya building and various others.

The chief minister said that the two-way trade between both the countries in the last 5 years remained between US$ 17 to 25 million.

He urged and invited Azerbaijan business and Industry to take initiative and invest in Sindh's alternative energy projects which offer a good scope and returns.

Thar coal and various fossil fuel energy projects in Sindh are also promising fields for entrepreneurs, he said.

The chief minister assured the Azerbaijan government and its people that they would find Sindh receptive to any projects.
