The accountability court approved on Wednesday deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz’s application to be exempted from court in future hearing.

The court allowed Nawaz to be exempted for a week and Maryam for a month. However, once the written order of the court is released, the starting date of the exemption period will be clarified.

During the court proceedings on Wednesday morning, Sharif had submitted an exemption request from November 20 trial due to on going medical treatment of his wife Kulsoom in London. “We have been together for 40 years, I can’t abandon my wife in testing times,” Sharif said in his application. His pleader, Zafir Khan, will appear on Sharif’s behalf during his absence.

Maryam also submitted an exemption request saying that she will appear before the court whenever she is summoned. However, she added, if some emergency arises, her pleader Jahangir Jadoon will appear on her behalf. The court had reserved its verdict regarding both the requests and had allowed the Sharif’s to exit the court.

The court also declared Hussain and Hassan Nawaz as proclaimed offenders due to their continuous absence. The court has summoned four more prosecution witnesses in the next hearing on November 22.

Sharif, along with Maryam and son-in-law Safdar, arrived at the accountability court on Wednesday morning where a number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz activists and federal ministers were gathered to show their support.
