The world renowned Pakistani art legend Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi has been honoured by Google on his 87th birthday with a doodle.

This tribute by Google is to honour the contributions of the Islamic calligrapher and visionary artist to the realm of arts and public space.

Doodle celebrates Sadequain’s legacy as he gave words a new expression of vibrant paintings. He “stroked new life into the centuries-old art of Islamic calligraphy”, writes Google.

He chose art over material wealth “giving paintings away for free, even refusing to take on commissions from royalty and heads of state around the world”.

His murals still adorn the walls of Lahore Museum and Frere Hall in Pakistan and are also exhibited in public buildings in India.

Sadequain received national awards, including the Presidential Medal of Honour. International art circles also recognised his work and in 1960 he received the Paris Biennale Prize.

Sadequain was born in June 30, 1923 in British India and passed away on February 10, 1987 in Karachi.
