ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Sunday said talks between Pakistan and India remained successful in reducing the trust deficit at the recently concluded SAARC Summit in Maldives.
Addressing a news conference here, she said this initiative would take the two countries to a result oriented dialogue on all issues including Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to the meeting between Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh in Maldives on the sidelines of the SAARC Summit, she said it was very constructive and positive.
All the issues including terrorism and that of Jammu and Kashmir came under discussion during the meeting, she said.
Hina said both the leaders had thirty-minute one-on-one meeting and the Indian Prime Minister had stated: "We want to move forward."
Answering a question, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan is pursuing good neighbourly relations with India.
She described the agreement of SAARC countries, to meet any natural calamity with unity, as a landmark agreement.
Hina said China is taking keen interest in SAARC which is a welcome step.
She said SAARC could play an important role in the region and added Pakistan has suggested establishment of a SAARC Regional Bank.
Talking about the meeting between Prime Minister Gilani and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, she said it was held in a positive atmosphere.
The Prime Minister said that he and President Zardari had taken personal interest in Pak-Afghan relationship and taken it forward. She said a stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and it supports Afghan led and Afghan owned initiative for peace in Afghanistan.
Referring to the meetings of Prime Minister with his Russian and Chinese counterparts on the sidelines of SCO Summit in Saint Petersburg, the foreign minister said both remained useful, constructive and forward looking.
She said, "certainly we have achieved new heights in our relations with Russia."
To a question, she said, the government is actively pursuing to get gas from where ever it is possible, including Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, and TAPI.
