TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks ended down 0.51 percent on Wednesday, lagging regional bourses, but tech heavyweights UMC Quanta Computer rose after their October sales data.
The main TAIEX index fell for a second day to close at 7,561.86, erasing gains earlier in the session. Among the biggest losing sectors, electronics and glass shed 0.82 percent and 1.41 percent, respectively.
UMC, the world's No. 2 contract chip maker, inched up 0.38 percent. Contract laptop PC maker Quanta climbed 1.64 percent. For details of their October sales, see and .
Cathay Financial , Taiwan's top financial holding firm, gave up earlier gains to end flat. It posted a net profit of T$1.4 billion for October.
