imageLAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has allowed mobile-application taxi service providers Careem and Uber, 15 days to get registered.

According to reports, the companies will continue to operate their services in the meantime, stated a spokesperson from the Punjab Government. There is no ban on these services in the province. The companies will just need to follow the rules, the spokesperson clarified.

The Punjab Transport Department will be in contact with both Uber and Careem to fulfill the legal requirements, he added.

The Sindh government said on Tuesday that it had not shut down the mobile application-based cab services, Uber and Careem, and given them a month to fulfill the necessary formalities under the laws and procedures of the provincial transport service.

The development has come in after Provincial Transport Authority notified both the foreign companies Careem, Uber and other ride-hailing services illegal.

Careem has its operations in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad while Uber has expanded its operations to other cities as well.
