Pakistan all rounder Shahid Afridi, remains one of the biggest superstars in world cricket, who enjoys a massive national and international fan following to back his stardom.
There have been reports, regarding Afridi interest in joining the political realm of the country, after his cricketing career gets over. The Boom Boom however, have refused any such claims, saying that there is no need for him to become a politician, as he is already serving his people through his various foundations. "A politician is obliged to serve his people one way or the other I am doing that through my foundation," he has said previously.
Nevertheless, the former skipper of Pakistan in his latest New Years Message, which he posted on the social media platform Twitter; Afridi has called for unity among the countrymen to build a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan.
Afridi sounded more like a politician than as a sportsman while addressing his fans said, "Pakistan has been surrounded by challenges for the past 25 to 30 years. It has sacrificed a lot. But now it is time for us to work for its progress and success."
Afridi then went on to praise the now retired Gen Raheel Shairf, and the armed forces for their contribution towards bringing peace back in Pakistan. He then went to praise the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, terming the project as the major turnaround for the country.
Afridi was of the view that CPEC would become a major source of employment, which will then help to reduce the crime rate in the country.
