Missed golden opportunity at MCG infuriates Wasim Akram

Published December 29, 2016 Updated December 29, 2016 12:33pm

imagePakistan bowlers remained toothless against Australia in the second Test at MCG, despite a good first inning total imposed by the batsmen.

The bowlers looked helpless against the daunting Australian batting line up, which continued to pile big scores including David Warner (144), Steve Smith (100 not out) and Usman Khawaja (97), helping the hosts surpass Pakistans first innings total, with a probable draw in sight.

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has slammed Pakistani bowlers non-aggressive approach terming it far too defensive while pointing out the importance of early wickets on a batsman-friendly pitch.

Pakistan needed to strike with the new ball if you dont get quick wickets, you will always struggle to control the scoring rate, said Akram while speaking to Express Tribune.

Pakistans tactics were a bit too defensive.

Wasim further lashed out at the visitors bowling attack, saying that the team lost a golden opportunity.

It is especially infuriating since they had posted a big total and could afford to attack. Yasir and the pacers struggled for line and direction and unfortunately the golden opportunity provided by the batsmen was lost.

Pakistan have already lost the first Test match at the Gabba, and the second ongoing Test match moving towards a draw, narrowing down the visitors chances of making history.
