imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif told the National Assembly on Monday that the contract for Nandipur power project was awarded to Dongfeng company during the tenure of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Replying to a point raised by Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the minister clarified that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government had not awarded the contract to the said company.

The project was only re-mobilized by the present government to complete it and details in that regard could be provided to the House when asked, he added.

He said Dongfeng was not blacklisted in Pakistan rather in another country and since this entity had different companies running independently, therefore, the company that worked on the Nandipur project was engaged validly.

He said since the government had no other option, therefore it had to re-mobilize the company.

"Therefore, the information revealed by the member was incomplete and beyond facts."

Clarifying another point, the minister said the commission regarding the Nandipur power project had submitted its report, which was lying with the National Accountability Bureau for action.
