MULTAN: Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana Saturday urged female students to play their role by serving society and the nation after completion of their education, instead of sitting idle at home.
He expressed these views while addressing the first-ever convocation of Women University, here on Saturday.
"Practically contribute to society and the nation by repaying the country which you owe to it," he said. He said that getting education in a university was not less than a blessing of Almighty Allah.
The governor said that women were engineers, fighter pilots these days, adding that female students were outshining their male counterparts.
He said that a meeting of Vice Chancellors Committee would be convened soon on his suggestion, which will be presided over by the president of Pakistan, he said and added that prime minister may also attend it.
After the 18th Amendment, education has become a provincial subject and the VCs committee meeting had long been pending, Rajwana added.
Appreciating teachers of special children, the governor said that it was quite difficult to impart education to special children. "Special children teachers are working with too much labour and hard work. They love these kids more than their own."
Quoting the example of Nelson Mandela, he said that Mandela rose to the high pedestal with very humble background, questioning that why can't our students do this all.
"You are our future. We have high hopes of you. No one can stop us from progress and prosperity because our youth is very talented," he added.
"Never let your dreams die," Rajwana said and added that both federal and Punjab governments were paying special attention to education and health projects.
In her welcome address, VC Dr Shahida Husnain highlighted the problems facing the university and demanded the Punjab government and HEC resolve the issues.
She said that the university should be allocated 73-acre piece of land situated adjacent to the university for its expansio.
She said that 326 graduating students were awarded degrees on Saturday, besides 15 gold medals including 8 for Masters and 7 for BS level students.
PML-N MPAs, Rana Mehmoodul Hassan, Ms Khola Amjad, Punjab HEC Chairman Dr Nizamuddin, MNSUA VC, Dr Asif Ali, Director Air University Multan campus, Dr Hayat Awan and several others educationists attended the convocation.
