imageRAWALPINDI: Indian forces targeted a school van passing through the Nakyal sector, near the Line of Control (LoC), killing one civilian and injuring four children, Pakistan Army said on Friday.

According to a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani forces gave a befitting response to the unprovoked firing and targeted Indian checkposts from where the firing was being carried out.

Officials said the van driver, identified as Asad, was injured and later died of his injuries, while four school children were wounded. The injured children are between the age of eight and fifteen years and were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Kotli.

Tensions between Pakistan and India have been running high following an alleged surgical strike, unrest in the Occupied Kashmir and the Uri army base attack in September.

Earlier on December 3, the newly-elected Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa vowed that any LoC violation will be responded with full force in the most effective manner. He said Indian aggression solely aimed at diverting attention of the world from atrocities being committed by their troops in the occupied valley.
