Pakistan versus Australia: Revenge time for Mickey Arthur

Published December 10, 2016 Updated December 10, 2016 11:02am

imagePakistan would meet Australia in a highly anticipated Test encounter starting this month; the series is important not only for Misbahs men, who seek to stamp their dominance in the world cricket.

It is equally important for Pakistans head coach Mickey Arthur, who could see the opportunity to avenge after being sacked from coaching Australia some three and a half years back.

When asked if he would seek payback from those who cost him his job, Arthur was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald: "The mischievous side of me does."

Giving his opinion on being fired from the job, Arthur stated, "It was hard. I'd be lying if I said I didn't battle my way through it. Your ego takes a knock, your integrity and reputation take a knock, and all you were trying to do was what you thought was exactly the right thing that was needed."

Coming to his current assignment with Pakistan, Arthur lauded the team specially the captaincy of Misbah ul Haq, under whom Pakistan achieved the No.1 Test ranking for the first time this year.

"He (Misbah) had to almost refresh the whole system and give the system its integrity back. He's a man of such good high principle and strong value," Arthur said.

"It's a brand built on integrity, honesty and tough, hard work," Arthur said. "They haven't taken any shortcuts. To get to No.1 without playing at home in six or seven years is a massive achievement for them."
