imageLAHORE: An energy efficiency management project (EEMP) of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has enabled 13 industrial units selected from the automotive and foundry sector to save 866,00-KWh energy per annum valuing about Rs 10 million.

The speakers said this at a seminar held by SMEDA on Thursday to share results of two-year interventions of the project at a local hotel.

Morihito Taka Yama, senior Japanese energy expert, gave a detailed presentation on the results and impact of the EEMP on the selected SMEs.

Yasuhiro, chief representative, JICA Pakistan Office informed about various initiatives taken by JICA towards SME development in Pakistan.

The prime objective of the project was to reduce energy inefficiencies at SMEs workplaces by introducing Japanese energy conservation tools and methodologies and management practices, he said and added as a result of the project's field activities, considerable amount of energy savings had been realised by implementing improvement plans suggested by JICA energy experts both in the fields of electrical and mechanical.

So far annual energy savings of over 866,000 KWh has been realised out of the total identified potential of 1,352,727 KWh, he said and offered full support of JICA also in future for development of SMEs.

Haroon Ahmed Khan, general manager, B&SDS Division SMEDA appreciated the utmost support of JICA and effective cooperation of trade associations for making the project a real success.
