HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares ended flat on Monday as earlier losses were wiped out in a late buying spree.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index edged 4.05 points higher to end at 17,711.06 on turnover of HK$60.36 billion ($7.76 billion). Chinese shares closed down 0.61 percent at their lowest level since April 2009.
The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was down 14.43 points at 2,344.79 on turnover of 39.9 billion yuan ($6.3 billion). The market was closed all last week as China celebrated its Golden Week holiday.
