imageKARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has signed the agreement of acceptance with Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to start Rs 15.254 billion bulk water supply scheme K-IV to provide 260 MGD water to Karachi.

The signing ceremony was held here at the CM House with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah as chief guest.

An official said on Sunday that those who attended the ceremony, included Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Mohammad Waseem and MD Water Board Misbahuddin.

On behalf of KWSB the Project Director K-IV, Saleem Siddiqi, signed the agreement while on behalf of FWO Brigadier Waseem inked the document.

The Sindh Chief Minister speaking on the occasion said that he was so excited to see the signing ceremony which is the concluding phase of contractual formalities to start work on the much awaited K-IV project conceived in 2007.

He was of the view that the population of this city has grown unchecked. "The shanty settlements have emerged along the nallas, Katchi Abadis and in the outskirts of the city. Now the city bursting to its beams," he said and added that with this pressure of population water demand reached to 1,100 MGD against which the city was getting hardly 400 to 450 MGD.

Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro said that he feels it is great service for the people Karachi.

Managing Director KWSB also spoke on the occasion and said that K-IV project would bring a revolution to thrive industrial activities in the city.
