pak_iran_gasISLAMABAD: Former General Manager (GM) Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Brig retired Agha Gul said that it is in the interest of the country to increase economic ties with Iran and implement gas pipeline project as soon as possible.

Talking to a private news channel on Thursday, he said that Gomal Zam Dam and Muzaffarabad Hydro Power project will be completed with the financial help of United States and the local energy requirements will be met from these projects.

He said gas pipeline project from Iran is tantamount to lifeline for Pakistan.

He said the dream of TAPI project can be transformed only after restoration of peace in Afghanistan.

To a question, he said US can help Pakistan in various sectors like installation of solar energy and wind energy projects.

He said we can handle electricity loadshedding if management problem is addressed.

Latif Mughal, Secretary Information PPP Sindh chapter also expressed the hope that the US will help Pakistan to meet energy needs as energy crisis is badly affecting economic development of the country.

He said energy crisis is creating unemployment in the society which is one of the causes of fundamentalism.

He asked the US to ink a deal with Pakistan for civil nuclear cooperation for power generation.

Replying to a question about Pak-US ongoing Strategic Dialogue, he said Pakistani masses do hope that the results of the dialogue will prove positive.
