TOKYO: Japanese stocks closed slightly higher on Thursday, up 0.34 percent, despite worse-than-expected core machinery orders for July dragging on heavy machinery shares.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed up 29.71 points at 8,793.12. The broader Topix index of all first-section issues added 3.78 points, or 0.50 percent, at 757.41.
