imageISLAMABAD: Former ace goal-keeper Mansoor Ahmed feels Pakistan Hockey needs an overhauling saying he is always available to render his services to save the national game, as his heart drenches by seeing the green-shirts not qualifying for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Disappointed upon the national team's defeat against Great Britain by 2-1,Mansoor while talking to APP said this defeat had sunk hopes of three-time Olympic champions Pakistan for a place in the semi-finals of the World Hockey League.

"The loss has pushed Pakistan on the brink, but a strong finish in the playoffs for the fifth to eight spots could still secure them a place in the Olympic Games lineup," he pointed. Ireland will now face Pakistan in the play-offs on Friday with a place at the 2016 Olympics at stake.

Mansoor said Pakistan had been the Olympics champion in 1960 Rome, 1968 Mexico and 1984 Los Angeles. "I cannot see where that standard of our game is now," he said.

Mansoor said our team play defensive hockey whereas attacking hockey is the need of the hour. "Our team didn't seem to have more than one game plan in the match," he said adding it looked like we didn't know how to deal the other team in a tougher situation.

Mansoor said no homework was done by the coach's side. "The techniques that our taught to team nowadays are old gone now and that is why the entire Pakistan hockey needs overhauling," he said.

Mansoor said players need a coach of the modern times even anyone from abroad can be roped in who can make our hockey better. "Our players also need to develop their mental strength and confidence level which was not seen in the League," he said adding our goal-keeping department also needs to be paid attention.

Mansoor said he is always there to render his services. "I am even ready to give or teach whatever I can at my own expense to the players," he said.
