imageISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has accelerated the efforts to control the theft of gas, petrol and electricity and burglary of Rs.5 million.

Talking to APP on Thursday an official of FIA said field teams have traced the theft of gas and electricity and registered 732 theft cases.

He said 732 people were arrested for the theft of gas and electricity and action was taken under the law of land.

To a question, he said all the FIA Zonal Directors (Punjab, Sindh, KPK and Balochistan) constituted the field teams to conduct raids on the gas and electricity theft.

He said the initiative will be very helpful for the FIA in dealing with the gas and electricity theft which were causing a huge loss to the national exchequer every year. It will help in controlling the loadshedding as well.

It is pertinent to mention here that the FIA officials have been dealing with the electricity theft with the help of Electricity Act 1910, Clause 39-A, which states, "whoever installs or uses any device, contrivance or artificial means for dishonest abstraction, consumption or use of energy of a licensee, whether he derives any benefit there from or not, he shall be punishable with an imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than three years but which may extend to five years.
