Total confirms gas discovery in Bolivia

PARIS: France's Total said on Wednesday it had discovered gas in Bolivia's Aquio field, confirming an earlier report by Reuters that the oil major had made a discovery in the Andean country.

"We confirm that we have made a discovery in the Aquio block," said a spokeswoman at Paris-based Total, which has a 60 percent stake and is operator of the Aquio block.

Bolivian government and market sources said earlier in the day that the gas field in southeastern Bolivia was a major discovery that could initially produce 6.5 million cubic meters per day, a figure the Total spokeswoman declined to comment on.

Total will communicate within the coming days on its initial estimates of the size of the discovery, she said.
