HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares gained 1.01 percent Thursday as dealers welcomed a strong set of corporate earnings in the United States as well as a strong rally on Wall Street.
Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index added 242.21 points to 24,138.31 on turnover of HK$77.55 billion ($9.95 billion).
Chinese shares closed up 0.65 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, ended 19.63 points higher at 3,026.67 on turnover of 147.4 billion Yuan ($22.6 billion).
