imageISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawazs counsel Shahid Hamid presented the details of the assets purchased in his clients name at the Supreme Court on Thursday, during the ongoing hearing of Panamagate case.

A larger bench of the apex court comprising of five judges Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Ijaz Afzal, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Hasan, were hearing the case linked with last years Panama Papers disclosures of the offshore wealth of the family members of the prime minister.

According to latest reports, Counsel of the Prime Minister Makhdoom Ali Khan continues arguing his side of the case from yesterday when the court adjourned the hearing after summoning written details of all the gifts given by Hussain Nawaz to his father Nawaz Sharif and those given by Nawaz Sharif to his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

Today, at the start of the hearing Maryam Nawazs counsel Shahid Hamid presented the details of the assets purchased in his clients name. The documents included the dates of purchase and other legal documents. Justice Khosa asked whether the father had bought the properties in his daughters name to which Makhdoom said yes adding that later when Maryam Nawaz had paid for it the land was transferred in her name.

At this point Justice Ijaz Fazal said that since the date till when Maryam Nawaz was a dependent is neither a part of Income Tax Laws nor Peoples Representation Act thus the definition of dependent has to be understood viewing the case. Justice Khosa added that though NAB ordinance defines unnamed assets but it has no definition of dependent.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifs daughter, Maryam Safdar, on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that she had never been dependent on her father since her marriage in December 1992.

Earlier, the PM Nawaz Sharifs counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan said Maryam Nawaz was not a dependent on her father (PM Nawaz Sharif) and that any exchange of money between prime minister and his children took place through banks.

Her name was listed as a PMs dependent on tax forms because there was no other column on the sheet, said PMs counsel in the case hearing and added, Prime Minister gave presents to Maryam Nawaz through banks.

It should be mentioned here that petitioners including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) have already completed their arguments.

Makhdoom Ali Khan, the counsel of the prime minister, in his arguments on Wednesday said that the applicants have levelled fake tax evasion charges against the prime minister. The counsel who maintained that until government institutions submit their individual investigation reports, under Article-184, Panama case could not be heard.
