KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Wednesday presided a high-level meeting regarding transitional time frame for reconstruction of Local Government System under SLGO-1979 held at CM House here.
An official statement said that the meeting was attended by Sindh Minister for local Government, Agha Siraj Durrani, Sindh Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Chief Secretary Sindh, Raja Muhammad Abbass, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mumtaz-ur-Rehman, Special Secretary to C.M. Sindh, Hafeez Abbasi, Secretary Local Government, Ali Ahmed Lund, Secretary Law Sindh, Syed Ghulam Nabi Shah, Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Sheikh, Administrator Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Syed, Special Secretary to C.M. Sindh Dr. Atta Muhammad Panhwar and others.
Chief Minister Sindh said that at present SLGO 1979 was in force and we will fulfill the requirement, till new Sindh local Government Act is finalized.
He said that the law of 1979 in field, which should work effectively and we have to deliver in the mean time.
On the report from Minister for Local Government Sindh and after detailed discussion the Chief Minister Sindh approved extension of period of six months in Sindh Local Government ordinance 1979, as the time period of newly re-adopted system will end on 7th February 2012.
He said that District Councils have already been revived and the notification for newly districts has also been issued, as such the Deputy Commissioners have been given charge of Administrators of District Councils.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah further said that as per 1979 law, the Deputy Commissioners are controlling authority for Municipal Committees and Union Councils, while Commissioners are controlling authorIties of Divisions.
He maintained that as per existing law, the government may appoint Administrators of District Councils in the province.
The meeting was informed that the process of reconstruction of Local Government System) under local Government Act, 2011 will be finally discussed soon, as the main member of Committee - Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq is out of the country and will come back within few days.
