ISLAMABAD: Air Commodore Akmal Abbas Khan, Base Commander PAF Base Faisal, died after short illness at Karachi yesterday.

Air Chief Marshal, Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force has expressed his extreme grief on his demise. The CAS has extended deepest sympathies and profound condolences to his family over the sad demise of the great pilot and a true patriot.

Air Commodore Akmal Abbas Khan was born on 22 December 1962 in Lahore. He joined the Pakistan Air Force on October 25, 1980 and got commissioned in the GD (P) branch on November 01, 1985.

During his career, he commanded Transport Conversion School, three Squadrons, a Flying Wing, PAF Base Faisal and a Training Wing PAF Base Korangi Creek. He was a graduate of National Defence University, Islamabad.

Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force along with other senior civil and military officials attended the funeral prayers.

Air Commodore Akmal Abbas Khan was laid to rest at his family Graveyard at Lahore with full military honour. A smartly turned out contingent of PAF presented the general salute.

After the burial, the wreaths were laid at the grave of the deceased on behalf of Chief of the Air Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Operations), Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Administration), Air Officer Commanding Southern Air Command, Air Officer Commanding Central Air Command, Station Commander PNS Mehran, Pak Navy and Base Commander PAF Base, Lahore.
