imageISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in collaboration with the USAID held second session of a series of advocacy and consultative sessions here on Thursday.

The session was attended by key stakeholders from the government, corporate lawyers, members of the bar association, members of the chambers of commerce, members from ICMAP and various faculty members from the academic institutions, said a press release issued here.

Representative of USAID, Asif Chishti appreciated the efforts of the SECP. Key industry leaders were also present at the session.

Mian Idrees, CEO Sitara Chemicals, as well as other key leaders from the business community also attended the session.

Introducing LLP as a new business structure is envisaged to fill the gap between business firms such as sole proprietorship/partnership and companies registered under the 1984 Companies Ordinance, 1984.

The LLP regime will provide platform to small and medium enterprises which would in turn increase their global competitiveness and will also assist professional firms of chartered accountants, advocates to conduct their business/profession efficiently.

The introduction of the LLP will provide an alternative form of business organization, where there is flexibility of a general partnership and on the other hand all the advantages of limited liability company.

The timing of the advocacy and consultative sessions is quite significant because the SECP is in the process of drafting the LLP law in collaboration with other stakeholders and this is a first step in that direction.

Through this advocacy and consultative session, the SECP has tried raising awareness about the concept and it will also be seeking feedback to introduce legislation to this effect.
