HYDERABAD: The use of degraded and substandard pesticides and fertiliser besides affecting farmers causes an annual loss of around Rs300 billion in the agricultural income of the country.

"Therefore, no leniency will be showed to such dealers and companies which were indulged in the sale of counterfeit inputs," Director General Sindh Agriculture Extension Department Abdul Waheed Shaikh said this on Tuesday.

He was addressing a meeting with Agriculture Officers from all districts of Sindh, according to a press release. He cautioned the officers that he would personally visit all the districts for spot check where cultivation for Kharif season had started.

"The Agriculture Officers and their subordinate staff should remain active to perform their assigned tasks of assisting the growers," he said. The present condition of the crops, availability of fertiliser, seeds and other agricultural inputs also came under consideration in the meeting. Among other officers, Director Plant Protection Bashir Ahmed Keerio and Director Waris Sanjrani were present on the occasion.
