kaira---KHARIAN: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday hoped that the masses would bring a positive change through their vote in the next general elections.

Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of Bashir Hospital at Dinga Road here, he said that now was the time to rise above the "biradari" system and elect public representatives on merit.

When the masses will elect better persons as their representatives to national and provincial assemblies, the country will progress, he added.

He said that in the coming elections, the masses should elect capable persons, who could deliver as the real change would not come through slogans.

The masses should realize what was the situation in 2008 when the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) came into power and what the PPP-led government has done for them, he said.

He said that the private sector was playing an important role in  the health and education sectors, which had been devolved to the provinces after the 18th Constitutional Amendment. However, he added, it was a fact that both the federal and provincial governments had not been able to do much in those fields.

He said that the people would have to play a role in moulding the society through their votes.

The minister said that the government was doing its best to provide jobs to the unemployed youth. After coming to power, it had not only regularized the contractual and daily-wage employees appointed during the previous regimes, but reinstated those, who were sacked in 1996-97.

Kaira said that during the last four-and-a-half years, the PPP leadership had done principled and clean politics.
