Iran gasoline capacity to rise in Nov: Shana

Published October 7, 2012 Updated October 7, 2012 01:45pm

shei12DUBAI: Gasoline production capacity at Iran's Shazand oil refinery is set to double to around 16 million litres per day in late 2012, making it the largest in the country, Iran's oil ministry news website reported on Sunday.

The expansion project to increase gasoline production capacity by 8 million litres a day should be complete in about six weeks, project director Rashid Seyedian told Shana.

"The main part of gasoline making unit will be completed in next 45 days," he said

Iran has been increasing its refining capacity over the last few years in response to Western efforts to prevent it from importing fuel needed to meet rising demand for vehicle fuels.

The refinery project at Shazand, near Arak, aims to raise processing capacity from 170,000 to 250,000 bpd of crude, while dramatically increasing gasoline production and reducing fuel oil output.

According to the website of the National Iranian Oil Refining and distribution company, Shazand Arak will be able to produce about 3.55 million litres per day of premium gasoline and 12.31 million litres per day of standard gasoline once the project is completed.

Shana also reported on Sunday that the development plans of the Sarvestan and Saadat Abad oilfields would soon be complete, raising Iran's oil production capacity by around 15,000 bpd.

Oil from Sarvestan and Saadat Abad will be pumped to the Shiraz oil refinery, Shana reported.
