SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines said Thursday it has postponed the launch of A380 services on flights to Los Angeles via Tokyo's Narita airport because of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The carrier had planned to introduce the superjumbo for the Singapore-Tokyo-Los Angeles route later this month but will instead continue using the Boeing 747-400 aircraft until further notice.
"Singapore Airlines is closely monitoring developments in Japan. At this point, all Singapore Airlines flights to and from Japan are operating," the carrier said on its website.
Foreign governments have advised their nationals to get out of Tokyo amid growing fears the nuclear crisis in quake-stricken Japan could escalate.Japan is struggling to avert an atomic catastrophe after the Fukushima nuclear plant suffered a series of blasts and fires after it was rocked by the record 9.0-magnitude quake on Friday that triggered a 10-metre tsunami.
