ISLAMABAD: Korea has approved development projects for Phalia and Islamabad during the current year.
According to a press release issued by embassy of the Republic of Korea, the new projects will be implemented by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The projects include provision of water supply and sewerage drainage scheme in tehsil Phalia; district Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab for villages adversely impacted by the Sugar Colony Mill.
Another project is construction of National Capacity Building Institute for Water Quality Management in Islamabad in coordination with Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).
Feasibility surveys for these projects were conducted by an official Korean delegation of experts in November 2010. The Korean delegates visited the project sites and federal and provincial government offices to collect technical information and share views.
These grant aid projects are in addition to the KOICA's ongoing training programs for Pakistani officials and ODA projects in the fields of textile industry and vocational training etc.
A Spokesperson of KOICA said it is expected that these projects will contribute in the socio-economic development of Pakistan and will perform an important role in exchange of technology and cultural relations between the two friendly countries.
He said Korea would continue its efforts to pursue social uplift projects in Pakistan.
