Special assistant to PM on petroleum says govt is developing 25-year LNG plan

• SAPM  said an import pipeline needs to be built, which is essential for cheap electricity generation in the country.
• The government will make monthly, half-yearly and annual plans for gas as well.

The federal government is bringing in a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plan for the next 25 years, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum Nadeem Babar said on Friday.

Addressing a conference held in Islamabad on the importance of LNG and its key role in economic activities, the SAPM said that new LNG plan has been in place for 25 years. He said the demand for LNG and prices for the next thirty years will have to be accurately estimated.

Babar said that by 2055, 45 percent of country’s electricity will be generated from LNG. The SAPM acknowledged that the country's energy sector is lagging, with the terminal and storage facility in bad shape.

The SAPM on petroleum said that an import pipeline has to be built, which is essential for cheap electricity generation in the country. He further informed that the government will make monthly, half-yearly and annual plans for gas as well.

Meanwhile, the attendees of the conference called on the government to make LNG infrastructure a priority.
