The statement stated that Musharraf had served the country for over 40 years and he also served as the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and army chief.  It mentioned that Musharraf fought several wars for the defence of Pakistan.

The statement added, “Due legal process seems to have been ignored including constitution of special court, denial of fundamental right of self defence, undertaking individual specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste.”

The statement maintained that Pervez Musharraf can surely not be a traitor.

The statement further stated, “Armed Forces of Pakistan expect that justice will be dispensed in line with Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

A special court in a first in Pakistan's history, handed down death sentence to former president general (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the high treason case on Tuesday.

A three-member bench of the special court, headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth announced its reserved verdict. The verdict which was split 2-1 said that it found the former military ruler guilty of high treason according to Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan for imposing a state of emergency on November 03, 2007.
