TOKYO: The benchmark Nikkei average fell 1.5 percent and the broader Topix was 1.3 percent lower on Monday.

**TAKEDA GAINS ON TAX REFUND**
Takeda Pharmaceutical Co rose 0.6 percent to 3,560 yen as the top percentage gainer on the Topix core 30, after it said on Friday it would likely receive a 57 billion yen ($690 million) tax refund.
Japan's pharmaceutical subindex slipped 0.3 percent.
