US weekly power output falls 1.6pc vs year ago

Published Updated

Power production in the continental United States totaled 89,586 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the week ended July 13, down 1.6pc from the same week a year ago, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) said in a report on Wednesday.

The week's output was 1pc higher than the 88,671 GWh produced in the preceding seven-day period, according to EEI data.

Year-on-year output fell in five of the nine US geographical regions tracked by the electric power trade group.

The Pacific Southwest region registered the biggest year-on-year percentage decline at 17.3pc, followed by the West Central region at 8.6pc.

For the past 52 weeks, US power production totaled 4,055,639 GWh, down 0.3pc from the prior 52-week period, the EEI added.
