TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened 0.29 percent higher on Monday, recovering from losses last week stemming from concerns overChina's growth.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange, which lost 1.14 percent on Friday, opened up 28.63 points at 10,040.10.
The Nikkei is likely to be supported by dip-buying as dollar-yen rates stabilise, despite some concerns over a slowdown in the Chinese economy, said Hideyuki Ishiguro, supervisor at investment strategy at Okasan Securities.
"The dollar-yen's downward momentum is easing," he told Dow Jones Newswires. "There are many investors who want to buy on dips (in the Nikkei index)."
On Friday, US stocks reversed early losses to end the week on a high note, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average finishing up 0.27 percent at 13,080.73.
The dollar firmed to 82.70 yen in early Asian trade on Monday from 82.33 yen inNew Yorklate Friday.
The euro bought $1.3272 and 109.74 yen, slightly up from $1.3268 and 109.28 yen inNew York.
