Wall St extends gains, Nasdaq up 1pc

NEW YORK: US stocks extended gains on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq briefly rising more than 1 percent to a fresh multi-year high and the S&P 500 at its highest level since mid-2008, as U.S retail sales rose more than expected last month and as concerns eased about the euro zone's crisis.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 110.57 points, or 0.85 percent, to 13,070.28. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 11.91 points, or 0.87 percent, to 1,383.00. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 29.45 points, or 0.99 percent, to 3,013.11.
