EU sees white sugar output rising to 18.3 mln t in 2019/20

PARIS: The European Commission on Wednesday forecast European Union white sugar production in 2019/20 at 18.3 million tonnes (mln t), up 3.9 percent from 17.6 mln t estimated for 2018/19.

* This would be well below a bumper 21.3 mln t produced in 2017/18 after the abolition of EU sugar quotas.

* The Commission forecast that EU white sugar exports in 2019/20 at 1.7 mln t, stabled compared with its estimate for the current 2018/19 season but down sharply from 3.4 mln t in 2017/18.
