Punjab home department permitted on Saturday Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to visit Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Bilawal will meet Sharif today in the evening and will be accompanied by PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senator Mustafa Khokhar and Political Secretary Jameel Soomro, local media reported.

The PPP chairman had earlier today requested the Punjab home department to allow him to visit Sharif and inquire about his health. “It would be appreciated if you could kindly manage this visit for today (March 9),” the PPP chairman had requested in his letter.

In a tweet two days back, Bilawal had expressed his disappointed over Nawaz's healthcare and said, "Appalled to hear of the callous and inhumane treatment of imprisoned former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by the government." He said Sharif should be provided with proper medical care and treated with respect.

The three-time ex-prime minister is currently incarcerated at Kot Lakhpat Jail and serving seven-year jail term in the Al-Azizia case. According to his family members, Nawaz's health has deteriorated and needs treatment. However, the incarcerated former premier has been continuously refusing to be shifted to a hospital.
