ISLAMABAD: Lauding Pakistan’s persistent peace-loving approach, Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Syed Fakhar Imam said on Thursday that tensions between Pakistan and India has subsided after diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and it's friends, but de-escalation does not guarantee of peace unless the Kashmir issue was resolved.
China, America, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other international powers and countries have played an important role in defusing the tensions between the two countries, but the world needs to address Kashmir conflict - the root-cause of the tensions between the two countries,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
He said India started the escalation by violating Pakistan’s airspace and bombing inside the country. Pakistan responded to the aggression to demonstrate that it has capability to retaliate.
He maintained that Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir have been emphasizing the need to resolve Kashmir issue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions but it was India that created hurdles in the smooth implementation of the resolutions.
The People of Kashmir have been waiting for over the last seven decades to be provided the opportunity to decide their future through free and fair referendum as proposed in the UN Security Council resolutions, he added.
Responding to a question, he said that people of Azad Kashmir are perturbed because of the constant killings of their brothers and sisters in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and over the continuous hostile fire across on the Line of Control killing innocent civilians in Azad Kashmir.
The chairman said that the people of IOK unanimously rejects India’s writ and were demanding freedom from the oppressive Indian rule. He also accused India of creating obstacles in the implementation of the United Nations resolutions.
He said the resolution on the Kashmir which passed by the National Assembly today would give a new boost to the Kashmir cause internationally. India through its aggression put all the region into dangerous, he added.
He alleged that the Indian forces martyred about 500 innocent people including women and children in the year of 2018 and committing atrocities against them only to suppress the indigenous movement of Kashmiri people for struggle .
Chairman Kashmir Committee also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was involved in killing of hundreds Muslims and now his aggressions against Muslims and Pakistan were only to win the forthcoming election and the India through its aggressive attitude has put both the countries on the verge of war.
Imam said the martyrdom of Burhan Wani granted a new spirit to the Kashmir cause and after this sad incident Indian occupied forces started more aggressions and atrocities against the innocent Kashmiri people to stop their liberation movement.
Due to successful diplomatic effprts , the government of Pakistan was succeeded in acknowledging the world community about aggression attitude of India against Pakistan and Kashmiri people, he added.
To a question, he said PTI government had played an effective and comprehensive role in reducing the tension between Pakistan and India, adding world community had also acknowledged the peace gesture of Pakistan wholeheartedly.
He said the step of Prime Minster Imran Khan for releasing captured India pilot was widely appreciated by the international community. Government of Pakistan through its dialogue offer and releasing Indian pilot had given a goodwill gesture to India but unfortunately the Indian side did not responded positively .
Government of Imran Khan was focusing on development in infrastructure, energy sector, tourism, telecommunication, agriculture, education and health and resolving kashmir dispute according to the United Nations resolutions is also priority of the present PTI government, he concluded.
