BAKU: Azerbaijan's oil exports via Russia rose to 332,867 tonnes in January-February 2012, up from 297,672 tonnes in the same period in 2011, Azeri state energy company SOCAR said on Friday.
Exports via Russia fell to 1.99 million tonnes in 2011, down from 2.24 million tonnes in 2010. The decline was mainly caused by an increase in oil supplies to Azeri refineries due to rising domestic consumption of oil products and repair works on part of the Baku-Novorossiisk pipeline.
SOCAR said in October last year crude shipments via Russia, which make up a relatively small part of total Azeri exports, would fall to 1.7 million tonnes in 2012.
SOCAR also said on Friday exports of oil products from Azerbaijan declined in January-February 2012 to 200,402 tonnes, down from 231,194 tonnes in January-February 2011.
Exports of oil products declined last year to 1.45 million tonnes from 1.85 million tonnes in 2010 due to rising consumption of diesel and petrol on domestic markets.
The former Soviet republic is stepping up oil exports through four other ports: Supsa, Batumi and Kulevi in neighbouring Georgia and Ceyhan in Turkey.
