UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan's Goodwill Ambassador for Women Empowerment, Fiza Batool Gillani, on Thursday exchanged views on women-related issues with Turkish Deputy Minister for Family and Social Policy, Askin Asan, on the margins of the current session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Bushra Zulqarnain, member of the National Commission on Status of Women and Saeed Alvi, Secretary Ministry of Human Rights also participated in the meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere.
Ms. Gilani, who is leading Pakistan's delegation to the session, thanked Ms. Asan for Turkey's generous humanitarian help to Pakistan as well as for a number of development projects such as those run by Turkish International Cooperation Agency, TICA, a press release of the Pakistan Mission to the UN said.
Ms. Gilani expressed the desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in social sectors as well as the need to increase women-to-women contacts. She also shared the steps taken by the Pakistani government to combat all forms of violations against women through various legislative and administrative measures.
Ms. Asan thanked her Pakistani counterpart and shared details of various projects undertaken by the Turkish Government for empowering women, the press release said.
She extended an invitation to Ms. Gilani to visit Turkey to have a firsthand experience of how these projects had helped women empowerment and also offered to help relevant Pakistani authorities in promoting education for Girl Child through TICA. Both delegations expressed the desire to further strengthen the existing good relations in all fields.
