Around 54pc of population suffers deficiency of basics in Pakistan: UNDP

KARACHI: The United Nations Human Development Programme (UNHDP) released a report on Tuesday, suggesting that around 54 percent of the population is facing grave deprivation of basic needs of life, while 11.8 percent is at the risk of “multi-dimensional poverty”.

According to the recent report that Pakistan’s ranking on the Human Development Index (HDI) dropped from 123^rd position to 125^th this year.

The 20^th anniversary of Human Development report commemorates the contribution of the late Dr. Mahbob-ul-Haq, the great economist of Pakistan, in theory of "Human Development".

The report depicted that 51.2 percent population is poor in education, 29.2 percent in health and only 42.9 percent is in good standard of living.

The report is also indicating that 10 percent population has no access to water and 55 percent is without sanitation.
