Nawaz Sharif to be shifted to hospital over ‘health complications’

Published February 2, 2019

A specially constituted medical board has recommended to shift incarcerated ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif to hospital after conducting his medical examination.

Earlier in the week, a six-member board, including two specialists from the army medical corps, had examined Sharif at Kot Lakhpat prison. The ex-premier has been in prison since December after he was convicted by an accountability court in Al-Azizia case. Sharif has been sentenced to seven years in jail in the case.

The medical board had revealed that Sharif had multiple health issues, including cardiac problems and needed specialized and immediate healthcare. The board has also sent a request to Punjab’s interior ministry to transfer the three-time former premier to a hospital.

Sharif is expected to be shifted to a Services Hospital today, local media reported.
