ISLAMABAD: The Petroleum Division and TAPI Pipeline Corporation are in the process of completing the essential documentation for timely execution of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
“In near future, the Petroleum Division and TAPI Pipeline will sign an essential document. Under the project, Pakistan will receive around 1300 million cubic feet gas to meet its energy requirements,” an official source privy to the project told APP.
He said Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and Turkmen ambassador to Pakistan Atadjan Movlamov had recently discussed the project under which around 1,680-kilometer trans-country gas pipeline would be laid. Turkmenistan has completed the construction of gas pipeline in its section, following which a groundbreaking ceremony was performed in February last year at the Turkmen border city of Serhetabat to take the pipeline to Afghanistan.
On Pakistan side, the gas pipeline would be laid from Chaman to Multan via Quetta and Dera Ismail Khan.
The TAPI Pipeline Company Limited (TPCL), the consortium leader, has expressed the desire to hold an inaugural ceremony in March 2019, in Pakistan, inviting head of states of all four countries, they said.
Commenting on progress made on the project so far in Pakistan, he said Technical Consultant of the project had been appointed and the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) had been completed.
Under the project, the official said, a 56-inch diameter 1,680 kilometers pipeline, having capacity to flow 3.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) gas, would be laid from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan up to Pak-India border by the year 2020.
