The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) has seen yet another increase for the week ended February 21 over the preceding week for the combined income group, ie, by 0.34 percent - from 244.14 points to 244.97 points, said the data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS) on Friday.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the core inflation for combined income group increased by 10.44 percent from 221.81 points to 224.97 points, the PBS said. The weekly inflation for the lowest income group with a monthly income of Rs 8,000 jumped by 0.34 percent from 224.15 points to 224.92 points, for the income group with a monthly income of Rs 8,000 to 12,000 it went up by 0.34 percent from 233.49 points to 234.28 points.
The SPI inflation jumped by 0.36 percent for the income with monthly income of Rs12,000 to Rs 18,000 from 235.28 points to 236.12 points, for the income group with a monthly income of Rs 18,000 to Rs 35,000 it witnessed an increase of 0.34 percent from 249.61 points to 250.47 points and for the income group with over Rs 35,000 monthly income it witnessed an increase of 0.32 percent from 256.21 points to 257.03 points.
The weekly SPI is being computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. The weekly inflation on yearly basis for the income group Rs 8,000 per month went up by 7.07 percent from 210.07 points to 224.92 points, for income group with Rs 8,000-12,000 monthly income it increased by 7.32 percent from 218.30 points to 234.28 points, for the income group with a monthly income of Rs 12,001-18,000, the SPI increased by 7.33 percent from 219.99 points to 236.12 points.
The SPI for the income group with a monthly salary of Rs 18,001-35,000 jumped up by 11.33 percent from 224.97 points to 250.47 points and the monthly income group of above Rs 35,000 the inflation increased by 14.86 percent from 223.77 points to 257.03 points.
During the week under review, prices of following 16 items registered increase including tomatoes, chicken, washing soap, potatoes, bananas, gur, rice, cooked daal, bread, pulse gram, garlic, pulse Masoor, vegetable ghee, eggs, wheat flour, and pulse Moong.
During the aforementioned week, average prices of six items registered decrease including LPG cylinder, onions, red chilly powder, wheat, pulse mash, and sugar. While average prices of the 31 items remained unchanged including rice Basmati, beef with bone, mutton, milk, curd, powdered milk, mustard oil, cooking oil, vegetable ghee, salt powder, tea, cooked beef, tea prepared, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, and others.
