A tough and interesting competition is likely between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate and former provincial minister Muhammad Atif Khan and Awami National Party (ANP) candidate and former chief ministry Ameer Haider Hoti on NA-21 Mardan-II (previous NA-9-Mardan-1).
The total registered numbers of voters in this constituency are 419,713 including 243,017 male and 176,696 female voters, while total 357 polling stations including 147 for male, 132 for female and 132 78 combined and 1,039 polling booths including 590 for male and 449 for female were established in this constituency. After the new population consensus some areas have been reshuffled in this constituency.
In 2013 election 336,177 voters were registered in this constituency, however in the last five years 83,536 more voters were registered in this constituency and the numbers of registered voters has increased to 419,713.
In the 2002 election Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulak on Muttahida Majlees-e-Amal (MMA) ticket secured 54,479 votes and succeeded on this seat, an independent candidate Abbas Sarfaraz Khan nephew of former chief minister late Mir Afzal Khan secured 15,376 votes, PPP candidate Murad Khan secured 5,077 votes while PTI candidate Yousaf Shah secured 1,049 votes.
In the 2009 election ANP candidate Khwaja Mohammad Khan Hoti secured 31000 votes and succeeded on this seat while Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulak on JUI-F tickets contested on this seat and secured 24,621 votes and PPP candidate Khanzada Khan secured 24,200 votes.
In the 2013 election ANP candidate Ameer Haider Hoti secured 44,769 votes and succeeded on this seat, PTI candidate Nasir Khan secured 42,068 votes, PML-N candidate Khwaja Hoti secured 32,090 votes, JUI-F candidate Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulak secured 14,427 votes and PPP candidate Shazia Aurangzeb secured 7,002 in this constituency. However tough contest and interesting contest is expected between PTI additional general secretary and former provincial minister Atif Khan and ANP provincial president and former chief minister Ameer Haider Hoti while PPP candidate Abid Ali Shah and MMA candidate Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulak is also contesting election on this seat.
The PTI workers considered Atif Khan one of the closest politicians to Imran Khan and due to this reason the PTI workers is warmly supporting him in this constituency. The PTI workers also claimed that 83,536 new voters were registered in this constituency and majority of them will use their votes in favor of PTI candidate. The PTI candidate also claimed that Khwaja Hoti secured 32,090 votes in the 2013 election and it is anti Haider Hoti votes and majority of these voters will also use their votes in favor of PTI candidate.
