Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had to withdraw tickets from former federal minister Sikander Hayat Bosan and some others under pressure from party workers after they resisted 'unjust award' of tickets to new entrants.
PTI withdrew ticket from Bosan for NA-154 constituency Multan on Sunday last while on Tuesday it took back the tickets from two Gujrat candidates that include former Gujrat district president Chaudhry Ilyas and Muhammad Zubair. The party had allotted tickets to the duo from Gujrat to contest elections from NA-71 Gujrat and PP-28 respectively. Interestingly, Chaudhry Ilyas had been PTI's candidate in 2013 elections and had secured around 61,000 votes. The move may be the result of PTI's alliance with PML-Q.
The PTI has also taken ticket back from former minister Syed Sumsam Bukhari from Okara. According to sources, the reason behind taking back ticket from Bukhari is that after recent delimitation, the constituency is changed to a great extent. The party may award ticket to its former MPA from Okara, Shafqat Masood Kharal, who is considered to be stronger candidate than Bukhari at present.
The sources within the party said that the decision to withdraw tickets from Bosan and some others was taken by party Chairman Imran Khan after consultation with senior party leadership as ideological party workers resisted the move tooth and nail. "There is possibility that some more candidates may also be deprived of their tickets as there is immense pressure on the party that people who had been with the party through thick and thin should not be ignored," they added.
The PTI has released the revised and final list of candidates of national and provincial assemblies for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, awarding tickets to some of the old guards, including Ali Mohammad Khan and Dost Mohammad Khan Mehsud, former civil servant and an old friend of PTI head Imran Khan, for contesting the general elections.
Just the other day a video surfaced online showcasing Bosan, going through a tough situation as he was stopped by a group of youngsters during his election campaign at Binda Sandila union council, who criticized his performance pertaining to the failure of construction of a link road in the area and his absence from the constituency. "The road is in a dilapidated condition....just get down of your car and have a look at the condition of the road and then decide whether you deserve any vote in next elections or not," said one of the protesting youngsters.
The party's old activists were not satisfied with the PTI leadership for awarding party tickets to some of the newcomers and openly criticized the decision of their leadership. Some senior PTI people in KP were divided over allotment of party tickets. Previously, some old PTI workers and close aides to Imran Khan were denied party tickets that created unrest among workers and some of them chose to quit the party and others put pressure on their leadership to revise their decision.
A sit-in was staged by the workers outside Khan's Islamabad house and was wrapped up only after PTI chief promised to review all the tickets.
Meanwhile, the sources said that PTI had got into seat adjustment with Majlis e Wadatul Muslimeen, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Awami Muslim League of Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed for the forthcoming general elections to be held on July 25. The party denied any electoral alliance with Pashtoon Tahafuz Movement (PTM) in former tribal areas.
