Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday dropped the name of Manzoor Afridi as caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to KP government spokesman, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, new name will be finalized until tonight (Monday night). However, he said Afridi's name as the caretaker chief minister was neither finalised nor dropped.
He said a meeting regarding the appointment of the caretaker chief minister, KP chief minister and Leader of the Opposition in KP Assembly Lutfur Rehman would meet on Monday night to discuss the matter, they are expected to resolve the issue amicably.
The incumbent chief minister of the province also rejected the reports regarding the appointment of Afridi. However, Imran has been reported to have congratulated Afridi on being appointed as the caretaker chief minister.
In a statement issued late Saturday night, it said that Manzoor along with his brother Ayub Afridi, a PTI senator, went to meet Imran at his Bani Gala residence where Khattak was also present
As per the statement, Imran congratulated Afridi, saying he should work on conducting elections fairly without taking into account any pressure from any party.
After the news emerged, the rival political parties including Pakistan Peoples Party and Awami National party had rejected Afridi's nomination and alleged PTI and Jamiat Ulema-e Islam-Fazl of collusion.
Earlier, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak and opposition leader Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman, in a third round of meeting, had reached a consensus on the name of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Senator Ayub Afridi's brother Manzoor Afridi.
On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly is set to dissolve today, however, KP CM Pervez Khattak will continue to perform his duties till the interim CM takes oath.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will stand dissolved at 12:00midnight after completing it five-year constitutional term. The provincial cabinet ministers would also lose their ministerial portfolios with the dissolution of the assembly.
First session of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was held on May 29, 2013 when the outgoing speaker administered oath to the newly elected members of the provincial assembly.
